NEW DELHI: WhatsApp is rolling out an update for its iOS app. The update introduces several new features, including those supported on the newest iOS 10 release. It also brings improved app sharing and Siri integration with third party apps on iOS 10.
The update for WhatsApp's iOS app (bumping the version number on 2.16.10) arrives hours after Apple released iOS 10 for all users. It enables users to make WhatsApp calls and send texts using Siri. In order to use the new feature, users first have to give WhatsApp access to Siri. To do this, go to Settings> Siri > App Support > WhatsApp, and turn the toggle button On.
Another iOS 10 feature introduced is the ability to place a widget on the lockscreen and homescreen. This enables users to easily see recent chats and unread messages. The update also allows users to answer WhatsApp calls directly from the lockscreen, just like normal calls. Earlier, iPhone users had to swipe right, unlock the phone and then answer the call after launching WhatsApp.
Along with this, the update makes in-app forwarding and sharing easier inWhatsApp for iOS. When users receive a photo or video on WhatsApp and want to forward the same, they just have to click on the arrow button beside the photo or video for direct sharing. This quick forward button also allows sharing of photos and videos in multiple chats. By clicking the button, WhatsApp can display frequent chat contacts on top and other recent contacts as well as group chats below that. It's also possible to select multiple chat heads to forward and share to in one go.
Back in July, WhatsApp introduced bigger emojis, zoom in/out functionality for video recording and the ability to delete multiple private chats simultaneously.
